Looking Back At Your Preliminary Task, What Do You Feel You Have Learnt In The Progression From It To The Full Product?

When coming into this course I was presented with many tasks involving new technology, that I was never confident in using. I was the after a few lessons of group tutorials presented with the task of creating a magazine cover and contents page on a school magazine. The program in which I used to make these productions was Photoshop.
  • Through using Photoshop throughout this course I have realized the importance layers within making a production, through using layers, it enables you structure the production strategically. And with Photoshop it allows one to hide a layer to see how something else would look with out another.
  • I have also recognized the importance of lighting within a photo and the composition of a photo, for instance you can see in my Photo in the preliminary task for the front cover that there is lighting reflective back of the glass door, giving the photo a rather un-professional feel to it.
  • However, when taking my photos for my real media production, we were provided with sufficient equipment to maximize my results, the equipment consisted of photographic scenery and a DLR camera, with professional lights that can be modified to a specific lighting.
  • As well as this, I did not put a lot of thought into my subjects outfit where as in my real production i did, I took into account how the outfit that my subject will be in portrays a message across to the audience. For instance, in my music production i took into account the sort of the clothes the target audience is interested in and placed these clothes on my artist. Front Cover Image
  • I have also learnt how different camera angles displays different things, and communicates different thing to who ever is viewing the photo from this angle, for instance, the photo on my double page spread is taken from a tilt, pointing upwards on the subject, this is to communicate a feeling a awe to the subject.
  • I also took more consideration on the artist I will be using in my real production, as with my research I researched into how I could represent different social groups within my image. I chose to use someone of a different ethnicity to the stereotype, that is black males. This was to challenge the stereotype.
  • Also with the introduction of In Design later on in the course, allowed me to create a more complete flat plan that allowed me to layout completely and give me a better idea of things where will go and how they would look within the program. Preliminary Plan You will also see the clear and more beneficial difference by looking at ,my plan of Double Page Spread
  • I've also learnt different ways of creating, presenting and publishing your work, through free websites such as Prezzi and Scribd.
Overall, I believe my Music Magazine Publication was a lot better in terms of quality and experimentation through using different equipment that was new to me and new programs such a InDesign. I've also developed some new skills that will be beneficial to me in the coming months of the course.
